🌿 Some chemical compounds within plants help them fight environmental factors (insects, sun, frost…) – particularly through molecules called flavonoids.
🧬 Catechins (including Epigallocatechin gallate known as EGCG) sit within flavonoids, have a strong antioxidant power, are mainly found in tea leaves, and are proven to improve blood irrigation, have positive effects on the brain… Green tea is high in them as it’s more intact than black tea (goes through a fermentation stage). Scientists recommend 5 cups daily for healthy adults.
💡 Advice: if you don’t enjoy the taste, please don’t give up, there are so many options out there! The Gyokuro has the most EGCG but is quite expensive. Organic Sencha is a good compromise, and use matcha for cooking!
