Quinoa, chia seeds, gluten-free diet… What to think, who to believe? “Superfood” doesn’t have any official definition. Commercial use of the word is banned in the EU but not in the US, and the media always refer to it.
Nutritionally, is considered “super” any food that is rich in essential nutrients and fibre and low in sugar and saturated fat.
Be aware that a lot of traditional food also have “super” characteristics!
3 questions you should ask yourself: Does this superfood…
1️⃣ have unique properties?
2️⃣ deserve its high price?
3️⃣ respect sustainability?
E.g. I am using chlorella powder because I believe it is unique: I can boost protein-levels of all dishes without changing any taste! Chia seeds are expensive and I’ve decided to replace them with flax or poppy seeds…
