For decades the animal farming industries got us to think animal proteins are necessary in the human diet.
Recent studies show that plant-based proteins are healthier and enough for us to function:
- legumes: beans, peas, lentils…
- meat alternatives like tofu (soya) and seitan (wheat gluten) – see recipes below
- some cereals (wheat) and pseudo-cereals (buckwheat)
Quick reminder (read the article), wheat gluten is a super-protein, so if you’re not intolerant there is no reason for you to have a gluten-free diet!
A few brands like Alver World (find out more) offer super-protein powder for us to boost our meals.
Without animal protein you will avoid ingesting unhealthy substances and will help the planet (the meat industry is a plague when it comes to greenhouse gases, soil destruction and water consumption), but you will miss B12 vitamin that is essential for your brain to function. Time to jump on marmite (find out more) and consider a food supplement!
